Letter to the Ward

July 9, 2010

Hello St. Anthony 2nd Ward:

I hope everything is going well. I can’t believe that I am writing a letter to the ward, that’s just crazy. Where has the time gone? I still feel like I should be in Primary learning how to sing “Follow the Prophet.” But time marches on. Like right now I am cutting into someone’s talk time so I will just share a thought that my new mission president shared with us:

From Elder Neal A. Maxwell,:

“…what we insistently desire, over time, is what we will eventually become and what we will receive in eternity. For I [said the Lord] will judge all men according to their works, according to the desire of their hearts” Alma said, “I know that [God] granteth unto men according to their desire,…I know that he allotteth unto men according to their wills” …Mostly, brothers and sisters, we become the victims of our own wrong desires.”

We need to evaluate our desires. Ask yourselves why you are in church today? Is it because your mom and dad told you to or you thought it was a good idea or did you come to learn more about your Savior, Jesus Christ? Whatever the reason make sure it is the right one.

I love you all.

Elder Thompson
