Letter from Sister Depew

October 24, 2011
Margo
You did a good job of hunting us down!  You actually sent the email to Ryan (Elder Depew's) uncle, but he forwarded it on to us.

Ryan also mentioned in his email this week that he was excited about his new companion.  He said they were getting along quite well so far.  He has only been in Meeker since Sept., but seems to really be enjoying it.  It is a lot different from Denver where he has been serving, but I sometimes think that different is a good change of pace for these boys.  Ryan is a worker and does not like to waste opportunities.  But as hard as he works, he likes to have a good time.  Not sure if your son mentioned it or not, but Ryan wanted to have a little fun with your son, so when he picked him up he drove him home on the muddy dirt roads the long way instead of the highway.  He thought it would be fun to see your son’s reaction to living WAY OUT in the boonies.

Ryan is an outdoors type of kid so Meeker is great for him.  He mentioned that he would be happy to stay there the rest of his mission, so I guess it must be pretty nice.  They have also had a lot more opportunities to do manual labor type service projects which Ryan enjoys.

Ryan mentioned that ya'll are from St. Anthony.  I was born in the Idaho Falls hospital while my parents lived in St. Anthony.  My father’s family is from Shelly ID.  If you know any Kotters or Nuttles they are probably related to us.  My maiden name is Kotter.  I have not lived in ID since I was 4 years old so I do not personally know many from around there.

As far as our family goes, we have three children.  Andrew our oldest served a mission in Spain.  He graduated from BYU-I last year and is planning on getting married in January.  Ashley our only daughter lives in Denver.  She is attending Johnson & Wales University and plans to graduate in May.  It was fun for her to see Ryan a few times when he was serving closer to her area.  And Ryan is our baby.  He attended BYU for a year before going on his mission.  Ryan is one of those kids that everyone gets along with.  He just loves people.  He also has quite a sense of humor and likes to keep people in a good mood.

One concern I have is that they have lived in 3 places in the one transfer that Ryan has been in Meeker.  The moving does not bother me, but the fact that I do not have a current mailing address bothers me.  Did your son give you his current address when he wrote you?  If so, would you please pass it on to me?  I would love to send the boys a package for Halloween and time is getting short.

Thanks for getting in touch with us.  If you know of anything we can do to help your son on his mission, please let us know.

Vicki Depew
