Sister Thompson!
I cannot tell you how excited I was to receive a letter from one of my favorite companion's mother!
But I agree, that tall boy is quite needy. But he is working very hard. He needs energy, especially carbs. So Potato Chips are definitely a good idea. Maybe you should send him some Beef Jerky too? I know he'll enjoy that.
To answer your question, Yes. I am still in the President's Office. It's crazy how fast the time goes when there is so much that needs to be done. Sometimes I don't think there is enough time in the day Sister Thompson, but the Lord always helps us to get everything done on time. It's like little time miracles happen every day!
I'll have you know that the Metro side of the mission is the best part of the mission! Your son is very fortunate to have stayed here for so long. Haha I supposed I'm biased since I love the city and have been on the metro side. The only time I've been outwest has been to go on exchanges with missionaries out there and Zone Conferences. I must admit though, the mountains and the Western slope of the Rocky Mountains is beautiful.
You're right, I gotta start making plans for my future. Its weird apply to schools and what not while I'm still a missionary. I'm not sure how much I like that... But I was planning on attending BYU Provo but after much prayer and meditation I felt prompted that I needed to stay in Southern California. So I'll be going to a Community College near my hometown and I'm planning to to Pre-Med and become a surgeon. I'm still unsure of what type, but all that is far far away. I still got plenty of time to be a missionary!
I really love your son. I'm grateful for the opportunity I had to serve him. He has such a pure heart and is such a gentleman. President Maynes often says that of your son, "Elder Thompson, is a fine gentleman." He's dignified and grown so much in his mission. You should be proud of such an outstanding impact he is having on all those he serves around. I know he helped me grow in incredible ways.
I'm planning to come to Idaho once Elder Thompson comes home. I'd love to attend his homecoming! I also promised him that when he got home I'd have grown a mustache. So we'll see how that goes. Haha.
Thanks for your email sister Thompson. God Bless and Talk to you later.
-Elder Tanner E. Palmer
